Khaz Castle

Mid-career, queer, theatrical artist and ‘Urban Junk Punk’. I use an experimental approach to research creating bricolage, assemblage and collage ‘rubbish art’ from found objects/junk, scrap fabric, text, collage, and digital editing/video making technology. I am inspired by a variety of arts including psychology, text, film and literature as well as art, design and craft which are all absorbed into my creative output. However, my main loves are the absurd, surreal and nonsense alongside the dark but colourful side of punk, goth, drag, cabaret and vaudeville.

This APD Professional Practice in Art and Design project continues my focus on the themes of:

FRAGMENT – to break; a small piece from a larger whole; a tiny, brittle shard.

PURGE – to cleanse, often abruptly or violently; a laxative

TRANSMOGRIFY – to transform in an often surprising or unexpected wayUsing my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 I have taken numerous random photographs of everyday objects which I have then collaged together and transformed bydrawing over the original image with the editing tool and then collaging into a variety of patterns. This new process has been influenced the random and nonsensical aspects during lockdown conditions and the obliteration of what was before into something new.
