Rick Marriner
I work primarily with photographic media, principally exploring it from technological and historical perspectives. Whilst the means of capturing my initial images is often analogue equipment there are points where digital processes are adopted, particularly concerning output and scale.
I am inspired by vintage photographs from the family archives that we tend to have sitting in an old trunk or box in the loft and the subsequent relationship between the photograph and the anecdote or short story, written, or perhaps more evocatively, spoken.
The current restrictions have limited my ability to explore darkroom and chemical processes as life in general has become fragmented. Simultaneously it has given me the opportunity to explore new ways of telling stories through a different medium.
My latest work looks at the emotional relationship between a house & those who occupy it.
There is sadness that comes with being forced to sell a place you love due to something out of your control; happiness, pain, sorrow and humour combine to tell the story of how one nation’s decision has affected a family’s dream.
